The Town Board voted unanimously to approve the controversial plan to replace two homes with a dozen condos in the Town of Hempstead.
Tuesday's vote allows the developer to replace the homes with a 12-unit condo complex off Hempstead Avenue south of the Southern State Parkway.
Opponents of the plan say renters will change the face of the community.
The property borders the Village of Malverne. Many residents there are also opposed to the condos due to potential traffic issues.
Town spokesman Mike Deery said the complaints and petitions were considered.
"There are traffic studies that go into proposals, there are other types of impacts that are considered and the Town Board reaches a conclusion based on that information. In this case, they felt the proposal was positive, was a progressive proposal and was something that would improve the area."
