Community rallies to give holiday gifts to twins as mother recovers from coma
A neighborhood came together to give a Farmingville family a Merry Christmas.

Melissa Zervakos is getting the chance to spend the holiday with her 5-year-old twins in their Farmingville home - something she says seemed unlikely two months ago.
Zervakos spent two months in the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia and put on life support.

"I was in a coma, I was on a ventilator. I wasn’t making it. They told me it wasn’t looking good, I wasn’t going to make it,” she says.

She miraculously woke up from her coma last month and has been home for about one week - just in time for Christmas.

Tracey Licata is a neighbor of Zervakos, and found out about the situation from her daughter who goes to school with Zervakos’ twins.

Licata wanted to make sure the twins would have gifts to open this Christmas so she reached out to more people who live nearby.

For two weeks neighbors collected everything from toys to clothes for the twins and as a result, the boys had more than 25 presents to open this Christmas.
