A group of Middle Country School District mothers organized a police appreciation lunch on Sunday in a show of support for Suffolk's officers.
The event was held behind the Suffolk County Police Department's Sixth Precinct in Selden. They served the officers sandwiches, cake, cookies and beverages.
"We decided to go ahead and feed them for a day, and serve them as they serve us," says Sandy Rosario, of Centereach. "They are a bunch of great men and women, and they don't get enough appreciation for the things they do, the sacrifices they make and the courage and the bravery that they show."
Police officers say the event was more than a chance to grab a quick lunch. They say it's about knowing that there are members of the community behind them as they head out on patrol.
The group also presented police with a plaque featuring the police officer's prayer. News 12 is told the plaque will be featured prominently behind the front desk at the precinct.
