A Commack bride-to-be says she got a sour email from a New York City dessert vendor she had considered hiring for her wedding.
Amanda DePascale sought information from Sweetery NYC, a food truck company, but a quote came back too expensive. She says she initially heard of the company through positive reviews on Google and Yelp.
DePascale says after determining the food truck was out of her price range, she did not respond to the company's emails or multiple follow-up phone calls.
"I probably should have, but I never did," DePascale says. "I kept getting call after call after call after call. Stop for a couple of minutes and then call after call after call after call."
Eventually, she received a message from the company president's email address. It was profanity-laced, and criticized her for not responding to repeated attempts to get in touch. The writer called DePascale a "despicable bottom feeding wretched disgrace of a person," among other insults.
"I have never, ever in my life seen someone go so far out of their way to make someone else feel so small," says DePascale's fiance, Joseph.
The couple posted the email on Facebook as a warning to other brides, which quickly went viral. A week later, Sweetery NYC posted a statement about what it called a "terrible situation."
The company posted an open apology on its Facebook page, saying an employee had been given access to the president's email account and sent the nasty letter to DePascale.
According to the company's post, "the employee who wrote the message has been fired."
The owner also apologized and asked DePascale to call him. DePascale and her fiance declined the offer.
News 12 Long Island spoke with another woman who says she also got an unprofessional and insulting email from the president's email account back in July after she said she wasn't able to hire Sweetery NYC for a corporate event.
The company told News 12 that the owner would have no further comment.
