(10/30/06) BELLMORE - Parents and students were panicked Monday when a threat of horrific school violence was discovered in a John F. Kennedy High School classroom in Bellmore.
Students and school officials discovered the threat written on a desk and in one of the bathrooms. The threat calls for a Columbine-like attack, a reference to the Littleton, Colorado high school massacre in 1999, for Wednesday, November 1. One parent says she is very upset with the school's initial response. She says when she called the school, officials refused to confirm anything specific, which only added to her and her family's worries.
According to a written statement released by the Bellmore-Merrick Central School District, heightened security will be in place Wednesday. The statement also says an explanatory letter to parents will be sent home with students Tuesday. Nassau County Police Department officials also confirmed officers will be sent to patrol the school.
