College Board announced that some SAT centers are closing
due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including more than a dozen on Long Island.
The College Board says about 39% of test centers for the
Sept. 26 exam have been canceled, leaving about 183,000 registered students
without a test site.
About 35% of test centers have opted to close for the Oct.
3 exam as well.
The
College Board says affected students will be reimbursed
their registration fees.
Parents told News 12 that they are now scrambling to
register their students for other exam dates or other test centers.
A growing number of colleges have adopted test-optional
policies for fall 2021 admission. The College Board says it's working to
provide other testing opportunities throughout the rest of the year.
In a statement, Priscilla Rodriguez - the vice president of college readiness assessments at the College Board - said:
"We know this is a challenging time for students who want to take the SAT. We will continue to work together with educators to provide testing opportunities to students throughout the rest of the fall and academic year."
