A Patchogue man wants to make sure veterans are getting the support they need during the pandemic.
It was trivia day Friday at the daily Coffee With a Vet Zoom meeting, hosted by Army veteran Dave Rogers. It's a place vets and civilians can come together and chat.
Rogers started Coffee With a Vet three years ago. The group would meet at a Patchogue coffee shop. When the pandemic hit, visiting the shop had to stop, but the meetings did not.
The group says it's a good place to relax and not take life too seriously. The groups has themed days for their meetings, including games and karaoke.
"Even when you're isolating you need to connect," says Rogers. "So this is a great venue for us to be able to connect people."
Rogers says the group has connected people from all over the country, including Michigan and California.
"It's always good to see fellow veterans," says Grant Hagerdorn. "It's always good to get support ... provide support."
Rogers says even when the pandemic ends, he plans to hold the virtual event every other week so the people who made friends there can stay connected.
