A Coast Guard ship flipped while trying to rescue a fishing boat off Rockaway Beach today.
Officials say the 76-foot fishing boat the "Carolina Queen The Third," ran aground just off Rockaway Beach around 2 a.m. Seven people on board needed to be rescued.
The Coast Guard ship from Jones Beach tried to get to the boat, but flipped.
All five Coast Guard crew members and the seven people made it to the shore safely.
They were checked out by EMS.
Both vessels were monitored near the East Rockaway inlet after the incident.
