A police pursuit Thursday in Clifton ended with the arrest of a shoplifting suspect with $1,500 worth of merchandise, according to authorities.

Police say Daniel Bataille, of Bloomfield, stole clothing from the Kohls on Main Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

Police responding to the scene spotted him on Franklin Avenue. One officer also recognized him as a suspect wanted in several other local shoplifting cases.

Authorities say they chased him on foot for multiple blocks, following over fences and through alleyways before he surrendered near Tangora Field in Nutley.

A police sergeant was injured during the pursuit but is expected to be OK.
