Police are searching for the person who stole a classic car from a garage in Huntington Station.
Suffolk police says someone sped off with a 1971 Camaro between Nov. 17 and Dec. 1.
Detectives say they have canvased the neighborhood and are looking at surveillance video in an effort to identify a suspect.
Over the last several months, two other hot rods have been stolen on Long Island. In September, a 1979 Malibu was stolen from a Nesconset garage. A 1967 Camaro SuperSport was also taken from a driveway in Holbrook.
Detectives have not said if there is any connection between the crimes.
Classic car owners say they are concerned for their property. Since the cars are so unique, most car experts say the vehicles may have been stolen for their parts.
"It breaks my heart because it is not a copy car from a new dealership that the insurance company can replace," said Dennis Manfredo, of the Long Island Hot Rod Association. "This is something that has a lot of personal touch and value."
Classic car enthusiasts say security measures like hidden GPS tracking devices and alarms are always a good idea.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
