Parents, children and education advocates gathered at the government offices in Hauppauge to ask for a Valentine's Day gift Thursday - millions of dollars worth of at-risk foundation aid.
School districts could lose millions if the promised foundation aid does not make it to the final state budget. Brentwood schools alone stand to lose $9.6 million.
The children delivered Valentine hearts to state Sen. Caesar Trunzo, asking not to have their hearts broken by the loss of school funding. A spokesman for Trunzo says the lawmaker is working to restore the aid and blames Gov. Eliot Spitzer for taking it out of the budget proposal.
The spokesman also says Trunzo will be taking part in a rally to fight for the foundation aid.
