The 11 people killed in a shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue were remembered in Roslyn on Sunday.
On the first night of Hanukkah, Chabad of Roslyn welcomed Pittsburgh police officers who responded to the mass shooting at the Tree of Life.
"Light will always prevail. And we have here our modern-day Maccabes that raced into the face of evil and smothered it," said Aaron Konikov, the director of Roslyn Chabad.
Pittsburgh officers, Nassau County officials and Jewish community members lit the tallest menorah on Long Island.
Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Commander Jason Lando also joined in the celebration.
"Just to have people total strangers coming up to you and saying thank you. it's really heartwarming. We really appreciate it and it was well-worth the very long drive out here," said Lando.
