A Suffolk County man was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison for a shooting outside of a baby shower in 2024.
Michael Lyles, 37, of Central Islip, fired ten rounds into a crowd during an altercation, striking a man’s vehicle, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s office.
Lyles had been a guest at a baby shower at the North Amityville Fire Department.
Evidence at the trial showed that as the party was ending, a large fight broke out, and the defendant was seen on surveillance video running to his car to retrieve a firearm.
A jury found him guilty of two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, at the end of the trial in Nov. 2025.
Lyles had previously been convicted of possessing a loaded firearm in 2018, and was on parole at the time of the shooting incident, the district attorney says.
No one was injured in the shooting.
