Search efforts are underway for a missing a 14-year-old girl from Centereach.

Michelle Stratton says her daughter Samantha has been missing for 11 days. She says Samantha ran away from Mercy First, a group home in Syosset that helps teens with psychological issues.

Stratton says she believes her daughter may be in New York City, but says she's especially concerned amid the recent violence toward teens in communities like Brentwood.

"She's very intelligent. She has many friends that want her to come home," says Stratton. "It just makes me sad hearing about kids being killed by gangs and I could be one of those parents hoping my daughter comes home."

Stratton is urging anyone who may know about Samantha's whereabouts to call police.
