A ceiling collapsed Friday morning as workers were preparing to remove asbestos from a building in Mineola.
The workers were performing renovations at Nassau's former social services building. Police say there were 19 men on the floor when a chunk of a concrete ceiling fell. Two men were pinned underneath.
Police say the two men, aged 22 and 46, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. Police also say the men were seemingly calm while being treated by emergency workers.
The other 17 men on the floor escaped without harm.
The two injured workers and others who were near the asbestos, including rescue workers, were decontaminated by a hazmat team as a precaution.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says it is now investigating the incident.
The Mineola building is undergoing a $72 million county-funded renovation and will eventually house a new family court facility.
