A fight broke out between a group of teenagers Thursday afternoon on the Long Beach boardwalk, city officials say.
The brawl happened at around 3 p.m. outside Riptides Snack Shop - one of the busiest sections of the boardwalk.
First responders were caring for people inside the business, which also had to shut down early for the day.
Witnesses say pepper spray also may have been involved during the altercation.
A woman, who did not want to be identified, says her son was hit in the head with a pipe during the fight. She says he won't be going back to the boardwalk alone anytime soon.
"I know for sure that now he's not going to go to Long Beach without me being there next to him," she says.
There were no serious injuries, according to city officials.
There have been fights on the Long Beach boardwalk in years past, including last summer when police stepped up patrols.
Riptides Snack Shop owner Brian Braddish says the city needs to do so again, especially on days when children are out of school.
"It's early in the season, the holidays are here, it's 80 degrees and that's bringing people to the boardwalk," Braddish says. "You have to have a police presence; you have to get out ahead of it. We've spoken to the city the last couple of years and time and time again, there's a not a presence here and there should be."
The business owner says they will be open again during their usual hours on Friday.
A spokesperson for the city of Long Beach says they are bringing in special police officers for the summer season and increasing police visibility, which is something they normally do when the weather gets warmer.
News 12 Long Island did notice police on the boardwalk after the fight who stuck around into the evening.
There are also new high-definition security cameras the length of the boardwalk.
