Owners of a dozen cars parked on a Port Washington street awoke Wednesday morning to find their windows smashed in.
It?s the second similar incident in the area in about a month, and police are concerned it may not be the work of pranksters. Port Washington Police Chief William Kilfoil says his department is looking into the possibility that the person responsible could be out for personal gain. ?It could be someone drumming up business for an auto shop,? he says.
Nothing was taken from the cars that were vandalized. Several victims say they had to skip work Wednesday while they waited for someone to come and repair their windows. Police say the vandalism will cost the victims thousands of dollars.
Police say they?ve spoken to one person who actually witnessed the incident, but the individual could only describe the culprit as a man dressed in dark clothing.
In January, nearly 40 cars were similarly vandalized in Manorhaven.
