A Miller Place family was able to safely escape Monday after a car careened into their home.
Jim Cordo, his wife, son and his son?s friend were asleep inside the home at around 6:30 a.m. when a Ford Mustang crashed through the front wall, stopping feet from their bedrooms.
The car blocked the hallways, leaving no way for the family to get out of the house. Firefighters soon arrived and opened up a back window, allowing Cordo and his family to get out.
Police say the driver likely fell asleep at the wheel with his foot on the gas pedal. He was traveling down Jersey Avenue, police say, when he crossed over Miller Place Road, hit a pile of firewood and went airborne. That?s when he smashed into the house.
The driver was not arrested and police say he will not be charged. Cordo says he?s glad everyone made it out safely.
