Friday's late-winter storm brought Long Island's MacArthur Airport to its knees as cancellations dominated the day.
By evening, not a single plane had departed or landed at MacArthur Airport in several hours. Snowplows were the only vehicles moving throughout the parking lot and approaching roadways. Barbara Odynski, a passenger on a scheduled Southwest Airlines flight, says she sat on the plane for more than four hours before her flight was canceled. A spokesperson says that plane was actually sitting at the gate and passengers were allowed to come on and off as they pleased.
At LaGuardia Airport in Queens, jetBlue canceled more than 200 flights. American Airlines also shelved an additional 100 flights. With all the extra passengers, one Southwest Airlines official expects Saturday to be chaos.
