A thief has been breaking into vehicles in Manorville this month, police say.
A surveillance camera belonging to a neighbor of two of the half-dozen victims recorded the thief checking car doors before spotting a camera, walking up and pushing the lens.
"It's disheartening to know somebody's going around and just helping themselves to things that don't belong to them," says Frank LaBozzetta, whose camera caught the crime.
LaBozzetta says nothing was stolen from his locked car, but two of his neighbors who left their vehicles unlocked were victims.
Police are also investigating a string of break-ins in Center Moriches where the suspects broke car windows to get at items inside.
Police say car owners should avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles, lock their doors and never leave keys inside the car.
