Bronx parents now have access to a full list of sex offenders living near their children after Governor George Pataki (R-NY) signed a bill into law Friday.
The bill allows the state registry to list the photos and addresses of moderate-level, or level-two, sex offenders on the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services Web site. The expansion means about 8,000 New York offenders will be included. Previously, the Web site only listed level-three offenders. The law also allows police officers to notify residents about level-one sex offenders living in their community.
Governor Pataki says the changes are meant to keep children in the Bronx and the entire state safe. The Web site is one of the provisions of Megan's Law.
