(AP) - President George W. Bush is offering someadvice to his successor, when it comes to dealing with his critics.
He says in the end, Barack Obama will have to "do what he thinksis right." If he doesn't, Bush says, "I don't see how you canlive with yourself."
Bush told a farewell news conference Monday that presidents cantry to avoid hard decisions and controversy, but that it's not hisnature to do so. He said he's been "willing to take on hardtasks," and understands that in times of war, "people getemotional."
He said he hasn't been alone in being the target of dissent.Bush said he's been reading a lot about Abe Lincoln, who he saysfaced his own share of criticism.
Bush said he wishes Obama "all the very best."
The outgoing president doesn't plan to maintain a high profile.He says he's leaving the stage for good, adding that there's onlyone president at a time.
