A burglar with a big appetite carried out a bizarre break-in at the Sexy Salad restaurant in Hauppauge early Saturday morning.
The owner tells News 12 that based on surveillance video of the incident at his Adams Road eatery, he believes the suspect was drunk and hungry.
"If you're gonna be broken into, you might as well get a good laugh out of it. This guy was hysterical -- I've never seen somebody so drunk and appreciative of bananas," the owner says. "I think we counted up 11 bananas. I think there were nine or 10 bags of potato chips. I don't know how many raspberry bars, pecan bars and muffins he ate."
Police say the suspect also urinated into a garbage can and took a nap on the floor before leaving the eatery. He left a New York State driver license and a watch at the scene.
Officials say the man featured in the surveillance video has made restitution to the business owner and the owner is no longer pursuing charges against him.
