Police tell News 12 Long Island buildings were evacuated in Great Neck earlier today after a gas leak.

The buildings affected were located on both sides of Middle Neck Road between Grace Avenue and Maple Drive.

Police say the gas leak was caused by a construction crew who pierced the natural gas line while operating a jack hammer doing road work.

The gas leak was stopped as of 12:36 p.m.
