5h agoThe brush fire in Napeague burned an area roughly the size of a football field along Montauk Highway.
East Hampton fire officials say it happened near Shipwreck Drive and Dunes Lane around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials say an East Hampton town police officer noticed the flames while on patrol.
Three departments responded to the fire. Traffic was shut down between Napeague Meadow and Bluff roads. The Long Island Rail Road was also partially suspended past Amagansett.
Everything was back up and running by 6:30 p.m.
