There is new concern in Long Island waters this morning as brown tide has returned.

The brown tide is showing up along the South Shore from the Western Great South Bay to Shinnecock Bay.

As News 12 reported in our special series "What's in the Water," experts believe it's caused by excess nitrogen in the water.

The algae blooms are toxic to marine life.
