Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine has signed an executive order to declare a state of emergency in the town, and has ordered all vehicles off roadways.

Romaine says vehicles parked in the street must be moved to driveways or they will be subject to towing at the owner's expense. Any abandoned vehicles obstructing access for snowplows and emergency vehicles may also be removed by the town.



Driving conditions are expected to be extremely hazardous throughout the today today and into Sunday. Long Island is under a blizzard warning through Sunday mornig.

Brookhaven town snow removal crews will be working throughout the night to clear the roads, Romaine says.

The town's non-emergency line is 631-451-TOWN, and residents are urged to call for storm issues that are not life-threatening or crime-related.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for parts of the state, including Long Island, and Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone has also declared a countywide state of emergency. Drivrers are urged to stay off the roads.
