Brookhaven residents are demanding that trees that served as noise buffers be replaced following their removal by the MTA.

The residents say the trees used to buffer their houses from the Long Island Rail Road train tracks, reducing noise and providing privacy. Now they say that their homes are out in the open. Neighbors say cutting down the trees has invaded their privacy and increased both dust and noise.

Brookhaven town leaders and local lawmakers are stepping in to help, calling on the MTA to take action and correct the matter.

In a statement, the MTA says that it cut down vegetation to make sure debris doesn't fall on the tracks, which could be dangerous for trains.

Officials say they will review requests made by local town officials and lawmakers.
