The town of Brookhaven is pushing to stop rate hikes from PSEG.
The town wants the New York State Public Service Commission to formally oppose a planned increase that would raise rates by 4 percent over the next three years.
PSEG says the increase would help modernize the electric system and enhance customer service technology.
Brookhaven officials say the town pays more than $6 million to the utility now, and that an increase would be unfair to residents.
