Some Bronx postal workers are rallying Monday to keep some offices in the borough open.
The U.S. Postal Service has recommended that three post offices in the Bronx close their doors. The processing centers would be consolidated and moved into Manhattan. Postal workers believe mail must continue to be processed in the borough. They claim closing the facilities would reduce services in poor and immigrant communities. Workers at the affected facilities would be reassigned to similar offices in Manhattan and New Jersey.
Postal Service representatives say the recommendation to consolidate services is only part of a study. They add no decisions have been made yet.
