A Bronx man was sentenced Tuesday for killing a Los Angeles-based drill rapper during an armed robbery at a pharmacy in Crotona, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark says.
Isiah Garrett, 27, will serve 20 years to life behind bars for shooting, beating and robbing Avanti Frowner inside the Amazing Pharmacy at 595 East Tremont Ave. on June 9, 2022.
Prosecutors say Frowner, 27, a Chicago native residing in LA at the time, was in town for a performance and went to the pharmacy with a friend to buy medication.
A group approached the rapper and his friend outside the pharmacy just before 2 a.m. and held them at gunpoint.
Garrett, 27, forced Frowner into the pharmacy and onto the floor, where he and others “severely beat him,” the DA’s office says.
Garrett then shot Frowner a dozen times in the torso. EMS rushed him to the hospital, where he died.
"The victim, Avanti Frowner, known as "Vontae," was in New York and needed medication at a pharmacy. As he left the pharmacy, he and his friend were robbed of jewelry, and then the defendant forced Frowner back into the store at gunpoint and fired a dozen times, killing him,” said DA Clark. “He callously murdered Frowner and put everyone in the pharmacy and on the street at risk."
Prosecutors say Garrett and two others involved fled to Georgia, where they were captured on June 22, 2022.
Garrett pleaded guilty to murder on March 3, 2026.
Co-defendant, Nayshon White, 28, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Tuesday and will be sentenced to 20 years to life on May 29, 2026.
Prosecutors say the trials for the two others allegedly involved in the killing are pending.
