A Bronx girl is gracing the pages of Sports Illustrated, a magazine distributed nationwide, as part of an article focused on women’s empowerment in sports.
Liana Chan plays ice hockey at the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club in Castle Hill.
Her father, Lawrence, told News 12 the Boys & Girls Club nominated Liana for Sports Illustrated.
The 11-year-old is one of 10 young, female athletes nationwide being featured.
Liana said she was surprised and wasn’t expecting the opportunity. She hopes the article inspires other young girls to play sports and hit their goals both on and off the ice.
“Hockey taught me to be strong because every time you fall, you always have to get up,” Chan said. “The game is so fun that you just want to keep on continuing, and that’s how life works.”
Readers can find Chan’s feature in the March edition of Sports Illustrated.
