Nassau police are asking the public to help identify two men who robbed a 78-year-old man Saturday night in a North Bellmore parking lot.

They say the robbery happened just before 6 p.m. in the North Shore Farms parking lot on Jerusalem Avenue.

Police say as the 78-year-old man was backing out of his parking spot when the two men approached the car, and one punched it, saying that the driver hit him. They then started screaming and demanded money.

Police say the victim felt threatened and feared for his safety. They say he reluctantly handed over his money.

News 12 was told the two men took $600 from him.

The incident has residents concerned about their safety.

“I'm worried now. I came with my husband today because I don’t want to come alone," said Donna Negri, of North Bellmore.

“When you’re by yourself, you feel threatened when two guys like that are going to attack a 78-year-old and there’s nobody to help him," said Patrick Negri, of North Bellmore.

“I live not too far I come here all the time, it’s very disturbing," said Mark Danese, of North Merrick.

Police say one suspect is a white man between 30 and 40 years old, 6 feet tall with a black beard and mustache. He was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt with white and red stripes, gray pants, and brown shoes.

The second suspect is described as a white man about 30 years old, 6 feet tall, brown mustache and beard, wearing blue jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt with a blue T-shirt over it and a gray knit hat.

Ninety-year-old Robert Feffer, of North Bellmore, says it’s unfortunate someone would advantage of a 78-year-old.

"We need maybe more police presence. I don’t know how to solve it," he said.

Police say the two suspects got into a white Maserati and headed west on Jerusalem Avenue.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
