Bronx and city students are bringing postcards and petitions to the Department of Education Thursday to demand changes to school safety policies.

Students involved with the Urban Youth Collaborative say they need a voice in high school reform. They are asking the Department of Education for ?safety with dignity.? Some of the students feel some of the security measures treat them like criminals. They believe it is time to get rid of metal detectors, armed police officers and random scanning.

Thursday?s planned protest is the latest over safety policies. Earlier in the month, many rallied against the mayor?s random scanning plan and the cell phone ban in schools.
