A Bronx school is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the achievement of one of their students.
The Cardinal of the Year award is Brilla College Prep's highest distinction, and is awarded to the student that shows the most commitment to education throughout the year. The school made sure the first day of first grade was one to remember for Jorge Elijah Rodriguez, the winner of this year's award.
Rodriguez, who achieved a second-grade level while in kindergarten last year, arrived this morning in a limo with the school's mascot. South Bronx company Bermuda Limo donated its services to the school to ensure an arrival fit for a future leader.
Besides being the best academically in his grade, Rodriguez's former teacher says he is very friendly and shows good core values.
Teachers say they hope other students will get inspired to do better in school after seeing their fellow classmate get the royal treatment.
