A major winter storm continues to pound NYC. It is about to give us a one-two punch of sleet, freezing rain and even more snow.
Already, about 8 inches of snow has fallen. However, we will see that snow melt as freezing rain falls. We could potentially see about a half of inch of ice develop on top of the snow and sleet that is on the ground.
The closer you are to the coast, the more likely that you will see the snow melt and potentially freeze. Freezing rain is different than sleet because freezing rain begins as a liquid. However, as it comes in contact with the ground, it freezes.
Black ice will develop on roads, driveways and streets, making your street very slippery.
The winds will continue to be an issue was well. Overnight, we can continue to see the winds gust up to 25 mph. Overnight, as the storm pushes east, the wind should begin to decrease.
Any leftover precipitation Monday morning should be light snow, with improving conditions by midday. Yes, we could see the sun. However, Monday night will be blustery again as temperatures dip into the lower teens. The wind will make it feel like it 5-10 degrees.
