A massive fire reduced a Brentwood home to charred rubble, leaving multiple families without a roof over their heads Thursday.
Flames ripped through the Peter Drive home around 11:15 a.m., causing the roof to collapse and leaving the structure as little more than a shell.
Theresa Glasgow lives right next door. The side of her home suffered damaged from the flames as well. After she saw the flames, she says she heard what sounded like an explosion.
"When I looked through the window, I saw this house was just smoking out," says Glasgow. "It was something like a bomb."
Brentwood First Assistant Fire Chief Edward Kelly says eight departments responded to the scene. He says it's still unclear how the blaze began, but that several propane bottles in the back of the house were found exploded. He also says it was a tough fire to handle.
"On the second floor, they were pretty bad. The new-style construction they use nowadays burns a lot hotter and quicker," says Kelly.
Sandro Romero Sr. says everything they own was destroyed. Sandro Romero Jr., 11, has lived in the house his entire life.
"I was at school, thank God, my friend told me," says Romero Jr. "He told me to check Facebook and then I saw the video where my house was burning down. I thought it was the worst day of my life."
Fire officials say there were seven people inside the house when the fire broke out, but everyone got out unharmed.
"My family's good. That's the only important thing," says Romero Jr.
