Glen Cove police arrested a man after his wife told police on the phone, "If you don't come, there will be a massacre" inside her home.
The woman called police at around 1:30 a.m. from her home on Glen Cove Avenue. When officers responded, she explained that she had been arguing with her husband, 29-year-old Brendan Ashby, and that they are in the process of getting a divorce. She said that she thought he would kill her.
Police approached Ashby, who was sitting in the bedroom with his back turned to the officers. Officers say they noticed he was holding a double-barrel sawed-off shotgun and was in the process of loading the weapon.
Ashby was tackled and arrested.
The couple's three children, a 4-year-old, 3-year-old and 1-year-old, were asleep in the house at the time of the incident.
Ashby was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
