Blizzard to near blizzard conditions continue to slam Long Island with thundersnow and wind gusts to near 60 mph. Blizzard warning continues until 6 p.m.

More than 20" of snow has fallen in Suffolk County. As of 7AM, Islip has reported it's 6th biggest snow on record. The all time biggest snow storm was in 2022 with 24.7" of snow. We are expecting to break that record.

Blizzard conditions through this afternoon

A blizzard warning for Long Island is in effect from now through 6 p.m. The heavy bands of snow will produce an additional 6 to 12 inches of snow on top of the 12 to 20 inches of snow as of7:30 AM This afternoon the snow will taper off west to east and we could have some sunny breaks by the late afternoon. Travel is not recommended with poor visibility from blowing and drifting snow. It will be cold with highs 33 to 35 and wind chills in the teens.

Major travel delays expected, power outages and more coastal flooding possible

Wind-driven snow will bring damage to trees and powerlines through this afternoon. Winds will gust 35 to 55 mph during the day and taper off towards this evening.
Major travel delays can linger into Tuesday. High snow amounts and blowing and drifting snow could be as high as 5 feet, and it will take time to remove all of the snow to make the roads safe and to restore any power outages.
Coastal flooding is an issue with this storm during the high tide cycles between noon and 6 p.m. Coastal flood advisory is in effect for the shorelines. Cars should already be moved in these areas.

TODAY: Blizzard conditions. Dangerous travel conditions. Stay off roads. Snow, mainly before 4 p.m. The snow will be heavy at times this morning with an additional 6 to 12 inches of snow. Areas of blowing snow. High near 33. Wind chill values between 15 and 20 degrees. Windy, with a northwest wind 30 to 55 mph decreasing to 30 to 40 mph by this evening.
TONIGHT: A few early snow showers. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30. West wind 10 to 20 mph.
