A Long Island woman who is a breast cancer survivor is working to help other women feel beautiful as they fight their own battles with cancer.
Barbara Vivolo, of Kings Park, opened her Hauppauge hair and wig studio on Sept. 30, just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She primarily helps women undergoing treatment for cancer who are losing their hair -- her shop offers natural and synthetic hair, custom-styled wigs and more.
Vivolo says she understands the personal struggles that cancer patients can face. She was diagnosed with breast cancer herself 11 years ago and had a double mastectomy. And her mother and aunt were also both diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003.
"Being that it was in my family at one point for three years, it was wigs, wigs, wigs, and my mother and my aunt really inspired me," Vivolo says.
Vivolo doesn't only support her clients through wigs. She also talks about her personal experience with cancer, and she is now a certified life and health coach.
"I'm looking to help as many women as I can, as many women who need someone to hold their hand during this traumatic experience of hair loss," she says.
Vivolo says, "If I can help a woman feel beautiful again, that's pretty good."
More information about Vivolo's shop can be found at her website, BarbarasHairStudio.com.
