A Queens man has been indicted on multiple charges related to a fatal crash that occurred on the Southern State Parkway in 2025.

The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office says Deodat Ramotar was driving drunk during a snowstorm when approached an exit at a high rate of speed, spun out into the snow and struck a nearby tree.

Three people in the backseat were ejected from the car. One was killed instantly, while the others sustained multiple severe injuries and internal wounds.

The charges against him include aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, aggravated vehicular assault, vehicular assault, assault, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated.

“What started as a fun gathering with loved ones ended in tragedy because of this defendant’s alleged actions,” said DA Anne T Donnelly in a press release. “Deodat Ramotar allegedly spent the night drinking at a family party, got behind the wheel during a snowstorm with a car full of passengers, and crashed into a tree… This crash was entirely preventable and my office intends to hold the defendant fully accountable for the devastation he caused.”

Prosecutors say the 35-year-old pleaded not guilty and was remanded. His next court date is set for Sept. 2.

He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
