A manhunt is underway for the man who broke into an East Hills home and then evaded police officers who responded to the scene.
Two officers responded to a residential alarm on Wildwood Lane and discovered a rear door open. During a search of the home, they discovered the intruder hiding on the floor in a bedroom.
When officers attempted to arrest him, he fought back and allegedly tried to take an officer's gun.
Police say the suspect was able to escape and flee the home. A search of the area was unsuccessful, and the man has not been spotted since then.
One officer was hospitalized for injuries sustained during the clash that are not considered life-threatening.
He is described as black male who stood at about 6 foot 1 with a stocky build, and is estimated to be 28-35 years old. He has curly hair and was last seen wearing a black jacket and black pants.
Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
