A box truck snagged overhead utility wires in Central Islip today, ripping a LIPA pole out of the ground.
Resident Douglas Reams says this is the third time that a truck has driven down Root Avenue and taken power lines along with it. This time, the incident also tore some of the siding from his home.
The pole cracked in two, with part of it landing on the truck. The driver of the truck stayed on the scene for hours, but wouldn't tell News 12 what happened.
A sign a few blocks away on Winslow Boulevard alerts truck drivers to avoid using the roads there.
It is unclear if the driver will face any violations for driving down the road.
A LIPA crew began repairs at around 4 p.m., replacing wires and the utility pole. Power was restored by 8 p.m.
