A passenger on a ferry out of Port Jefferson spotted a man's body floating in the water near Belle Terre Monday afternoon, police say.

Authorities later identified him as Gregory Blanco, a 41-year-old Commack man who had gone kayaking on the Long Island Sound out of Northport.

His 14-foot craft was found in the water near Stratford, Connecticut.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office will work to determine Blanco's cause of death.
