Metropolitan Transit Authority board member Mitch Pally is asking the agency to restore $40 million in service cuts.

Pally is calling for the restorations in response to a large, unexpected increase in MTA revenue. The MTA says the revenue increase came from taxes on large real estate sales, the improved economy and more fare-paying customers.

Pally is pushing to restore a number of Long Island Rail Road cuts made in 2010. The cuts Pally wants to see addressed include the lack of year-round weekend Greenport service, no weekend West Hempstead service and hourly instead of half-hourly Port Washington service. He also wants station cleaning to be performed more frequently.

MTA spokesman Adam Lisbig will not confirm the restorations will be made, but told News 12 that the agency will take into account changes to its revenue and expenses.
