Black Friday shopping deals are going through significant changes as online ordering has become a standard in holiday sales.
Marketing professor Jack Mandel, of Nassau Community College, says "Cyber Monday" deals continue to drastically cut into Black Friday holiday sales at brick-and-mortar shops. Many retailers have essentially watered down the quality of their Black Friday sales by stretching them throughout the month.
"In my opinion, if you wait until the day or two before Christmas, that's when you'll get the best deals," says Mandel.
Matt Bright, of East Meadow, will stay clear of the mall madness on Friday.
"Half the sales go on for weeks anyway," says Bright. "I wouldn't risk my life and limb for any type of merchandise."
While many of the Black Friday sales have already begun, others will begin on Thanksgiving. Mandel says that does appeal to some shoppers, but also turns others off who believe that the workers should be able to be home with their families on the holiday.
