Efforts to protect pedestrians from pigeon droppings in Lindenhurst are resulting in trapped and dead birds.

Netting was installed several weeks ago at the Lindenhurst train station in an attempt to curb the droppings and ultimately keep pigeons out of the area. But several dead birds have been spotted trapped in the netting underneath the platform. Live pigeons are also becoming entangled in the netting, and have even laid eggs on it.

TC, who owns the nearby Village Pub on North Wellwood Avenue, says it's a disturbing sight. "You're waiting on a crosswalk and you look up, and there's dead birds above you," she says. "Some of the birds are eating the dead birds just to stay alive."

TC says it's all patrons talk about once they get to her pub. "I'm not some crazy activist," she says. "I own a business in this town, I love this town-- but this is not OK with me."

A cage was also spotted behind the netting with live pigeons trapped inside. Passersby said the sight was appalling and the methods appear inhumane.

An MTA spokesman says it's up to the village of Lindenhurst to address the situation.
