Billy Joel's original band was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
In 1975, after three albums and three years in California, Billy Joel wanted to come home to Long Island, and the Billy Joel Band was born.
Liberty DeVito played the drums, Russell Javers played guitar, Doug Stegmeyer played the bass and Richie Cannata the saxophone.
Cannata remembers the first time he met Joel - when the band went to Franklin Ave. North in Hempstead to record 'Turnstiles.' The building currently houses the African American Museum, but back then it was the renowned Rock 'n' Roll Ultrasonic Recording Studios.
News 12's Carol Silva inducted the band into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
