The Biden administration is considering mandating proof of a negative COVID-19 test for travelers on domestic flights.
The potential measure comes after President Joe Biden asked U.S. agencies to come up with ways to impose additional public health measures for domestic travel.
Dr. Sharon Nachman, an infectious disease expert at Stony Brook Children's Hospital, says mandating the COVID-19 tests for domestic flights is a start to help curb COVID-19.
"Having no start point means those people who are not feeling well are getting on planes and infecting other people, or worse, infecting people when they visit," she says. "I think it's an interesting starting place. It, however, is not fool proof."
Some airline officials say they are concerned that the new COVID-19 testing requirement for domestic flights will deal a blow to the industry that's already struggling to stay afloat.
