A year after trace amounts of benzene and other gasoline-related chemicals were found in Bethpage ground water, residents are beginning to wonder when the cleanup will be finished.
Members of the community were told that testing would commence about a year ago, but have not received any updates from the Department of Conservation.
The DEC recently began drilling again along the streets of Bethpage, searching for the still unknown source of the contamination.
Bill Fonda, of the state DEC, commented that the investigation is likely to last for a while longer while analyzing the results of seven monitoring wells in the area.
